Imlay City Family Practice, in partnership with Cornerstone Wellness, now offers a new Wellness Program. ICFP Wellness is an evidence-based, nutritionally sound weight management program designed to help physicians treat patients with metabolic syndrome. Well it has been almost one year since I started the Cornerstone Wellness Program at Imlay City Family Practice. I have to start by thanking Susan and Renee' for being my coaches and cheerleaders for this program. I had almost given up hope on ever losing weight and becoming healthy. That all changed when I met Susan and started this program. I had bee on three different blood pressure medications and a statin for Cholesterol. I am happy to say that I am on NONE of those today. I am 62 years old and at one point (2016) weighed 273 lbs. At that point I realized I had to do something. I started going to the gym and riding my bike and was able to lose 40 lbs.. But as with most weight loss programs I put back on 22 of those 40 lbs. This has be a cycle/struggle throughout my life. On March 2, 2018 I started the Cornerstone Wellness Program with Susan at Imlay City Family Practice and haven't looked back since! When I started this medically supervised weight management program I weighed 258 lbs and once again was frustrated. After being on the program almost one year, I have found it easy to follow. I have found I can eat a variety of food, I am not hungry, I feel healthy and have lost 77 lbs. I do use the Cornerstone Wellness Shake Product as well as the Omegas other than that everything I consume is purchased at any grocery store. Now; I will say I did change my sedentary lifestyle for a more active one; but that was a personal choice. I love to ride my bikes (I have four, lol) and my goal for 2019 is to do one 100 mile ride. I also go to my planet fitness this time of year about 4-5 days a week. In the summer not so much as I am riding more. The ICFP Wellness Program was an easy plan for me to follow. The best part of this program was that I was still able to eat foods that I normally would, but with portion control. It also introduced me to eating more vegetables, fruits, and nuts than I previously had been, and taught me how to substitute healthier food choices instead of the high-carb foods I was eating. I have lost 25 pounds since November of 2018. My average weight loss has been approximately 2 pounds per week. At first, I concentrated on the diet and did not exercise. Beginning in January of 2019, I regularly use a recumbent bike, five days a week for a half hour per session. Since I’ve started the program, with the shakes, pills, and weight loss, I have noticed that my joint pain has diminished, my energy has increased, and I can’t wait for spring so that I can start working outside again.
